Flake Rewarded With Ambassador To Turkey Appointment

Sen. Jeff Flake vowing in 2018 to block all judicial nominees until his fellow senators met his demands.

As a reward for his support during the 2020 Presidential Election, President Joe Biden named former Sen. Jeff Flake ambassador to Turkey.

“Given the strategic importance of the United States’ relationship with our long-time NATO Ally, the Republic of Turkey, I am honored and humbled by the trust President Biden has placed in me with this ambassadorial nomination,” said Flake in a press release. “This is a pivotal post at an important time for both of our countries. Cheryl and I are grateful for the opportunity to serve, and eager to get to know the extraordinary people of Turkey.”

Flake served in the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate before negative poll numbers prevented him from running again in 2018.

Flake was joined by Cindy McCain, the widow of Sen. John McCain, in campaigning for Biden in Arizona. McCain was rewarded with a post as the U.S. representative to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture.

Both Flake and McCain have been censured by the Arizona Republican Party for their attacks on former President Donald Trump.
