Chandler Mother Arrested For Teen Son’s Overdose Death

A Chandler mother has been arrested for child abuse in connection to the overdose death of her 15-year-old son.

According to the Chandler Police Department, on April 10, 2021 at 8:44 a.m., Chandler Police officers responded to 97 N. 31 32nd St. regarding a report that a person was not breathing. The mother identified as Jamie M. Barrett, reported that her 15-year-old son was nonresponsive and foaming from the mouth.

The teen was later process pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Police believed the teen might have died from an overdose and Barrett told officers the marijuana Vape pens her son used were perhaps laced with fentanyl.

Cell phone records between the teen and Barrett indicated she attempted to have him purchase fentanyl pills, referred to as blues, and offered to give him one.

On August 10, 2021 the Maricopa county medical examiner informed Chandler Police that Barrett’s son died from the toxic effects of fentanyl.

On August 11, 2021 Chandler Police officers arrested Barrett. She was booked into the Maricopa county jail for one count of child abuse, a Class A felony.

Barrett has a $25,000 bond.

Police say Barrett was actively involved in drugs and involved her son to help her obtain the drugs, offering him fentanyl pills in return.
