A Sierra Vista woman, Alysha Hop, was arrested for first-degree murder and three counts of child abuse tied to the death of her 2-year-old son, Kenny “Bubs” Gamble, when she turned herself in on Wednesday. Her boyfriend is still at large and being sought on the same charges stemming from the death of the woman’s son in June 2020.

At about 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 25-year-old Alysha Hop turned herself into SVPD after a grand jury warrant had been issued for her arrest on Aug. 27.

The warrant was issued after Hop and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Sierra Vista resident Daniel Jawara Foster, were indicted on charges of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting from the investigation into the death of little Kenny in June 2020.

Based on the medical examiner’s report and interviews with hospital staff, investigators determined that Hop’s son’s death resulted from blunt force trauma to the skull and lack of oxygen flow to the brain. They also found the injuries occurred at a time when Hop and Foster were sole caretakers of the child.

Hop was booked into Cochise County Jail on one charge of first-degree murder and three charges of child abuse. She is being held on a $1 million bond.

Foster is still at-large and is believed to have fled outside of Sierra Vista. SVPD is working in concert with the U.S. Marshals Service to apprehend Foster as soon as possible. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to contact SVPD Detective Paul Youman by calling (520) 452-7500.
