On Wednesday, U.S. Air Force airman Mark Gooch was found guilty of kidnapping and killing a Mennonite woman, Sasha Krause, of San Juan County, New Mexico.

Sasha Krause had been reported as a missing person from the Mennonite Community in Farmington, New Mexico in January 2020. Her body was found in Coconino County in February 2020.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, detectives learned that during the time Sasha Krause went missing, Gooch had traveled from Luke Air Force Base, where he lived, to Farmington, New Mexico. Tracking cell phone data on Gooch’s phone, detectives were able to place Gooch near Sunset Crater in Coconino County where Krause’s body was located.

“We are delighted to hear that Sasha got some justice today,” San Juan County Sheriff Shane Ferrari. “We will be working with the District Attorney’s office to move forward with the charge of kidnapping in the upcoming weeks.”
