A 29-year-old man faces charges after he allegedly robbed a bank in Nogales last week.

According to the Nogales Police Department, on Wednesday, December 2, 2021, an alert parking control officer who had just finished his shift at the vaccination site on N. Hohokam Drive, noticed a male subject matching the description of the person wanted for a bank robbery at Chase Bank, walking on North Hohokam Drive. The parking control officer reported his suspicion to the detective handling the case.

When the detective and other responding officers arrived, Anthony C. Maytorena was identified as the wanted suspect by his neck tattoos and other physical characteristics.

Maytorena granted consent to search his person and belongings, where officers found a white long sleeve shirt with gold lines down the sleeves and logo on the left side of the chest, along with a dark “True Religion” baseball cap in a bag he was carrying, which is the same clothing the suspect was wearing the day of the bank robbery. Maytorena was also wearing white tennis shoes with the same tread pattern that were located in the wash leading away from the scene.

Maytorena was taken into custody and transported to the Nogales Police Department for further investigation. Maytrorena will be booked for armed robbery, threatening and intimidating, as well as an arrest warrant for an unrelated incident.

Maytorena is known to have local ties, but has a last known address out of Tucson, Arizona. At this point in time, the money taken from the bank has not been recovered, but the investigation in an attempt to recover the cash is still ongoing.
