As Phoenix Police Officer Tyler Moldovan fights for his life, members of the public want to know just how his shooter, Essa Williams, was roaming the streets in the first place. Williams, a convicted felon, shot 22-year-old Officer Moldovan up to eight times last week.

According to his arrest record, Williams is a convicted felon/prohibited possessor, who was sentenced to nearly 23 years in prison in 2017. Yet he was released just three short years later in April 2020 after serving time concurrently for two armed robberies and 3 counts of aggravated assault/endangerment.

KNAU reported that the prosecutor in the case against Williams, said the suspect repeatedly shot the young officer and continued firing even after the officer was on the ground.

On Tuesday, Phoenix Police Officer Brian Issitt, commander at the Desert Horizon Precinct, said Officer Moldovan was still fighting for his life. Issitt said he and Officer Moldovan’s family are praying for a miracle.

Officer Moldovan was placed on life support after the shooting.
