Yavapai County Sheriffs Identify Victim In Prescott Fatal Shooting

Sterling Wade Peters has been identified by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office as the man shot on December 27, 2021. Mr. Peters, age 56 of Prescott, was fatally shot during a domestic disturbance between he and a woman with whom he had a prior relationship.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), the couple moved to Prescott three years ago from the Phoenix area and were living in the Ponderosa Park. At approximately 12:30 p.m. the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a neighbor of the woman, who stated that she had come to the neighbor’s house and informed them that she “shot” Peters during an altercation.

Deputies arrived to find Peters deceased inside the residence and initiated a homicide investigation.

Homicide detectives obtained a search warrant for the home to process the scene and collect evidence, including the possible weapon, and the evidence is currently being analyzed as part of the investigation by the YCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau.

The unidentified woman suspected of shooting Peters was questioned by YCSO deputies and has fully cooperated with the investigators. No charges have been filed at this time.
