.Phoenix Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in west Phoenix just after 1:00 p.m. and left one man dead.
Officers were called to the area of 28th Avenue and Coronado Road for a report of a female that was stabbed. When they arrived, they were directed to the male, later identified as Emilio Chamizo, who was in front of a residence and still armed with a knife. An officer told the Chamizo to drop the knife several times. Chamizo walked towards the officer with the knife raised and the officer responded by shooting the Chamizo with his firearm.
Officers provided medical aide until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived. Chamizo was transported to the hospital where he died.
The original female victim was located with multiple stab wounds and taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The female victim is expected to survive her injuries.
Detectives are working to uncover the details, however, preliminary information indicates the victim and suspect are known to each other.
