This week, the Arizona House of Representatives approved a bill that will create a specialty license plate to fund Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Centers.
The bill, HB 2615, sponsored by Rep. Joseph Chaplik, establishes and authorizes a “Youth Music and Art” specialty license plate in support of Cooper’s Arizona 501(c)(3) non-profit charity located in Phoenix and Mesa, providing free music, dance, and art classes and opportunities to all youth between the ages of 12 and 20.
“In supporting the Solid Rock Teen Centers non-profit with a specialty license plate, Arizonans will help teens find inspiration to learn and grow through music and the arts, and help them overcome common challenges of homelessness, suicidal thoughts, and mental health,” said Chaplik.
Specialty plates may be issued through the Arizona Department of Transportation in place of a regular plate. These plates do not cost the state any money and, in fact, generate revenue for the state and the nonprofit charity it benefits. An initial and annual renewal fee of $25 is required for the special plate in addition to the vehicle registration fees. Of this, $8 is an administrative fee and $17 is applied as a donation to the charity.
HB 2615 was unanimously approved by the House Transportation Committee earlier this month.
It will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.
