Rusty Bowers Has No Business Testifying Before January 6 Committee

Arizona State Speaker of the House, Rusty Bowers (R, LD-25) is apparently scheduled to testify at Tuesday’s U.S. House hearing in Washington D.C., what an embarrassing mistake for Arizona. According the usual unreliable mainstream media outlets, Bowers and others will focus on former President Donald Trump’s alleged effort to pressure state officials to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

Bowers will join election officials from Georgia to serve as props for the illegal January 6 Committee’s dog and pony show. They will most likely give dramatic testimony about the meager but earnest attempts by the Trump campaign to make sure our votes were fairly counted – and if not, to make sure our electors reflected an honest vote count.

It is speculated in those same media reports, that Bowers, a self-described Trump voter, will testify that Trump and Rudy Giuliani, called him after the election in order to convince him and the legislature to decertify the election results and verify them before sending presidential electors to Congress.

Even though the Arizona State Legislature, as do other state bodies, has a defined Constitutional role to play in a presidential election, we did not have a say in the certification of the 2020 election, or in investigating claims of voter fraud directly following the election. Only our Governor and our highly partisan Democrat Secretary of State certified the 2020 election.

Without any investigation into mounting evidence of election irregularities by Arizona’s Attorney General or other state officials, early after the election Bowers publicly denied that any voter fraud had actually occurred. Evidence of organized voter fraud may have triggered the election results to be questioned or set aside for three of Arizona’s largest counties.

Coincidentally, in February of 2022, long before his invitation before the January 6Committee, and in what might be considered a conflict of self interest, Bowers used a parliamentary maneuver to effectively kill a House GOP bill that would have overhauled elections within Arizona, including the expansion of legislative power to scrutinize and possibly reject questionable future election results.

Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren has said that she wanted to hear “the truth” from those testifying. “These individuals are Republicans. They voted for Trump. They are, you know, supported him,” she said to CNN. “But they wouldn’t do illegal things that he asked them to do. So we expect to hear in some detail about the pressure that was placed on them and why they were true to the law instead of the pressure.”

However, the January 6th Show-Trial Committee reminds me of blatant Strongman Banana Republic tactics, unserious people uninterested in actually uncovering the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I certainly do not recall a more corrupt display of partisan congressional politics during my lifetime.

Useful Idiots Wanted

The Committee is comprised of hand-picked Trump-haters from both parties, who revel at any opportunity to bring RINO Republicans, like Bowers, before them in a desperate attempt to bolster their waning credibility. Unsurprisingly, the confidential communications of Democrat U.S. House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, especially concerning the security of the U.S. Capitol leading up to the events of January 6, are somehow restricted from committee review, and that of the American people.

In what has been called Trump’s Third Impeachment Trial, their relentless attacks on the former President are nothing more than acts of desperation, in light of Trump’s continued popularity, the utter failure of the Democrat Biden administration, and the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.

After serving as a House Committee Chairman multiple times during my 4-terms, and in light of their many years of noticeable cognitive decline and memory lapses, it would have been inconceivable for me to have allowed either Bowers or President Biden to testify on any topic within one of my House Committees — especially a misleading, polarizing topic inappropriately coined by the liberals as “The Insurrection.”
