Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, and Senator Mark Kelly in Tucson visit.

In a highly politicized visit on Thursday to the Grand Canyon State, Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Pete Buttigieg doled out federal dollars to the mayors of Tucson and Phoenix, with Sen. Mark Kelly by his side.

The Secretary announced in advance of the 2022 General Election, that the Department would be delivering $75.2 million in grant awards funded with taxpayer dollars to multiple Arizona communities for various transportation projects.

Sen. Sinema raised eyebrows by not joining her fellow elected representatives on either stop to celebrate the spending bonanza.

Retiring Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick was on hand for the Tucson stop, hosted by Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, while Representatives Ruben Gallego and Greg Stanton (D-AZ-02) were present at the Phoenix event hosted by Gallego’s ex-wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.
