Phoenix police detectives are investigating a homicide that left one-man dead after forcing his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home.

Officers were called to a house in the area of 113th Drive and Indian School Road around 6:45 a.m. for a report of an unknown trouble call.

When they got there, they found a man and a woman who directed the officers to a man, later identified as 19-year-old Kimoni Wilson, inside the home who suffered a gunshot wound. The officers entered the home and provided aid until the fire department arrived. Wilson was pronounced deceased on scene.

Homicide detectives responded and learned Wilson is the ex-boyfriend of the homeowner. Wilson forced his way inside the house and got into a physical fight with another man inside the home. Wilson then used a firearm he found inside the home to hit the man. During the struggle, the man was able to get ahold of the gun and shot Wilson who died on scene. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries that occurred during the fight.

In consultation with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the man was released, and charges will be submitted for review at the conclusion of the investigation.
