Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in a residential street where a woman was struck by gunfire while seated as a passenger in a vehicle.

Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to an unknown trouble call at a gas station at 27th Avenue and McDowell Road. When officers arrived, they located a woman, later identified as 35-year-old Yenni Dominguez Leyva, with a gunshot wound. Dominguez-Leyva was taken out of a vehicle that was occupied by two other adults and 5 children. Fire personnel responded and treated Dominguez Leyva, but she died from her injuries on scene.

Officers were informed a group of suspects were in front of a home, in a nearby neighborhood, when the shooting occurred. The victims believed the suspects went back inside that home after the shooting. Officers located the home and attempted to communicate with the occupants. When there was no response, detectives responded and secured a warrant to enter the home. Once inside, they detained 19-year-old Martin Ramirez-Contreras, and two juvenile males.

After speaking to the witnesses, detectives learned the occupants of the vehicle were making their way through a neighborhood near 32nd Avenue and McDowell Road after picking up a relative. This was when multiple suspects began firing at their vehicle. Their vehicle sped off, but the other passengers learned Dominguez Leyva was hit by the gunfire so they stopped at a nearby gas station.

The suspects were later booked for multiple felonies to include Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.
