Lake Uses Fake News To Teach Fake News A Lesson

On Thursday, gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, a seasoned reporter with over 20 years in the news business, taught the mainstream media a lesson on fake news.

Lake called for an “emergency press conference” after news broke that a suspect had been arrested for a burglary that occurred at Democrat gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs’ campaign headquarters. Prior to the arrest, Hobbs, without any evidence, implied that Lake’s “rhetoric” led to the burglary. Hobbs’ accusation was then carried statewide by an eager media.

Those same eager reporters descended on Lake’s headquarters for the “emergency press conference,” likely in the hopes that they could generate more fake news.

Lake turned the tables with a perfectly choreographed fake news conference:

For nearly 30 years, the Emmy Award-winning Lake was a fixture in the Phoenix-area news business, first as a reporter starting in 1994, and then as a longtime anchor for KSAZ-Fox10.

Lake announced she was stepping away from broadcasting in the country’s 11th largest television market, due to the pandemic and the fake news she thought was generated by it.

“It really got difficult for me when Covid hit,” Lake told Arizona Daily Independent reporter Terri Jo Neff in March 2021. “I felt the stories I was reading were not fully truthful. The cancel mob’s insistence that certain Covid- related stories not be told or even whispered, while others were told over-and-over made me feel as if I was not giving a balanced view of the situation to viewers.”

“I became a journalist to be helpful, not harmful, but some of the stories I was reading likely contributing to the fear and division—and I couldn’t do that anymore. I prayed a lot for guidance—asking God to lead me in the right direction,” she said.

If the polls are any indication, Lake is headed in the direction that at least a majority of Arizona voters want her to go. The same cannot be said of the mainstream media, including local nightly news, which has taken an almost deadly ratings hit.
