An out-of-work CPA and immigrant from Angola, Daniel Mota Dos Reis, has been arrested in connection with a pair of commercial burglaries that included the campaign headquarters of gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, 36-year-old Daniel Mota Dos Reis was already in custody at the time they discovered he was the suspect in the Hobbs’ headquarters burglary.

On October 25, 2022, Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary call in the area of Central Avenue and Virginia Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned from the reporting party that an unknown man broke into their building the night before and stole multiple items.

The officers were shown an image of the building’s surveillance footage and saw an unknown man leaving the office building just before 7 p.m., on the evening of October 24th. The officers collected evidence from the scene and were told they would be provided a copy of the video surveillance at a later time.

On the night of October 26th, a patrol officer viewed a news story displaying a released image of the surveillance video. The officer recognized the man as Dos Reis, who was a suspect that was arrested earlier in the day for another unrelated commercial burglary.

The officer researched the arrest and learned Dos Reis was still in jail but would soon be released. The officer contacted the jail and was able to re-arrest Dos Reis.

Detectives later learned Dos Reis had the previously stolen property with him at the time he was originally arrested. The recovered stolen items were returned to the victims.

Dos Reis was booked on one count of Third-Degree Burglary.

Although Hobbs inexplicably tried to tie the burglary to Lake and her campaign rhetoric, police have not released any motive for the burglary or any evidence linking the suspect to the election or Lake’s campaign. In fact, Dos Reis’ social media posts indicate he lost his job during the pandemic and had hit hard times. If anything, his social media posts indicate a progressive, but anti-American bent. He expressed his hope to move to Europe:
