Argument Leads To Suspected Self-Defense Shooting Death Of Phoenix Man

Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting death of a man near 3000 East Kings Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a call of a shooting after an argument between two men turned deadly on December 2, 2022. When officer got to the scene, a man acknowledged being involved in the shooting. A second man, identified as 45-year-old Jorge Rodriguez, was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Phoenix Fire Department arrived and pronounced him deceased.

Detectives learned during the investigation that the suspect was working in the area when the victim began arguing with the suspect. The victim reportedly took out a gun and pointed it at the suspect. The suspect took out his own handgun and shot the victim. The suspect made statements consistent with self-defense and was not arrested.

This incident is still under investigation. Once completed, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will review the case for any criminal charges.
