The child that died in a crash on a busy stretch of Thomas Road in central Phoenix Tuesday morning has been identified as 9-year-old Shala Zamora.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a call of a serious vehicle collision around 9:05 a.m. just east of 7th Avenue on Thomas Road. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles that were involved in a collision. In one of the vehicles, officers located a man with two children. They were transported to a local hospital where Shala died from her injuries. The man and younger child are expected to survive.

The officers located the second vehicle which was occupied by a woman and another juvenile. The juvenile was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman did not suffer any serious injury.

Detectives responded to the area where they processed the scene and investigated what lead up to the collision. Preliminary information suggests one of the vehicles was heading eastbound when it swerved to avoid a collision with a vehicle and drove into westbound traffic and collided with another vehicle heading westbound.

Currently no arrests have been made but speed and possibly impairment maybe a factor.
