Phoenix police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in a residential neighborhood in South Phoenix.
On January 3, 2023 shortly after 10:40 am, officers were in the area of 36th Avenue and Tamarisk Avenue investigating a residential burglary call. While conducting this investigation, officers encountered a man armed with scissors in an alleyway nearby. The man was given multiple commands in both English and Spanish to drop the scissors. The man was detained, and the scissors were secured. Officer rendered aid to the man until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on scene. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing.
There were no injuries to any other community members or officers.
