73-Year-Old Phoenix Pedestrian Killed In Collision

Phoenix police detectives responded to the area of 24th Street and Campbell Avenue to investigate a fatal collision that left a 73-year-old pedestrian dead.

Phoenix police responded to a vehicle collision involving pedestrian Gloria Gomez just after 8:00 p.m. on December 31, 2022. When officers arrived, they found Ms. Gomez unresponsive on the ground. Phoenix Fire personal responded and pronounced her deceased.

Investigators arrived on scene and learned that the vehicle operated by an adult male was driving northbound on 24th Street crossing Campbell Avenue when he had struck Ms. Gomez while she was in a marked cross walk. The driver reported he had a green light prior to the collision and that the victim was crossing against the light.

The driver stayed on scene and was evaluated for impairment. Investigators did not see any signs of intoxication from the driver. No arrest was made regarding this incident.
