Man Sought In Shooting Of Scottsdale Police Officer In Downtown Phoenix

UPDATE: Phoenix Police officers were involved in a shooting while taking suspect Kenneth Hearne into custody near Baseline Road and Lakeshore Drive in Tempe. According to the Phoenix Police Department, on January 7, 2023, officers conducted surveillance in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Rural Road in Tempe where Kenneth Hearne was believed to be. During the surveillance, Hearne appeared in the area. Officers moved in to arrest Hearne. Hearne displayed a firearm, and this was when the officer involved shooting occurred. Hearne was killed.

Phoenix police are asking for the public’s help in locating 37-year-old Kenneth Hearne in connection with the shooting of an on-duty Scottsdale police sergeant.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident occurred Friday, January 6th shortly after 7 p.m. Scottsdale Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit was attempting to serve a search warrant at a Phoenix apartment complex in the area of 1st Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

Immediately after shooting officers from the Phoenix Police Department assisted Scottsdale in trying to locate Hearne. They were unable to find him.

Police say Hearne should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
