Public Will Have Opportunity To Provide Input On Changes To Phoenix Police Use Of Force Policy

The Phoenix Police Department is asking the public for help in revising its Use of Force policy. The Department is seeking public input involving major policy revisions beginning January 17.

A draft copy of the proposed Use of Force policy is available here for review.  The Department says it is important to note that this draft is not the entire policy.

Next week, the Department will send out a link for the feedback form next week. All comments will be reviewed and taken into consideration before the policy is finalized.

This initial draft includes the foundational components of the Use of Force Policy: Core Principles, expanded DefinitionsLevels of Force, and revised General Policies.

The public input period ends on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

In the near future, the remaining sections of the policy will be amended and released for public review and comment. Those sections of the policy include: Force OptionsReporting Requirements, and Duty to Intervene.
