He might have been day drinking, or he might simply come to delusion naturally, but whatever his reason, Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva actually compared the Chinese spy balloon traveling over America’s border and into the U.S. to the Department of Homeland Security blimps that are used to protect our borders.
“People are outraged by a Chinese surveillance balloon, but when @DHSgov puts up a surveillance blimp in Arizona border communities without community consultation 😶🤫,” tweeted Grijalva.
After being widely mocked for equating a violation of sovereign airspace to efforts to secure American borders, the congressman, known in some Arizona circles as “El Gordo,” edited the tweet by adding “rightfully” before outraged, but he left the comparison intact.
The comparison drew a quick response on social media from people who were shocked that a U.S. Representative was unable to distinguish between a foreign nation violating U.S. airspace and the U.S. using its airspace to monitor its own borders.

The China balloon isn’t the only thing going over your head. https://t.co/BDqSRDH2Rb

This is @RubenGallego’s mentor and comrade and who he voted with 98% of the time. Equating a DHS balloon used to protect our border to a Chinese intelligence balloon. Pathetic. https://t.co/usahzRE3Hs

“At this point, Grijalva isn’t even trying to do his job, and he’s just tweeting stuff that pops into his head.” said one disgusted southern Arizona voter. “But since the Democrats down here are just going to re-elect him no matter what, he isn’t ever going to get better.”
