One year after his arrest on multiple counts involving possession of child pornography, self-admitted sex addict Mark Holub Snyder-Stonebraker of Sierra Vista was sentenced Monday to five years in prison.

Snyder-Stonebraker, who turns 75 next month, must serve the time as a result of his recent plea of guilty to two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. Upon his release, he will be on lifetime probation and must register as a sex offender, Judge Joel Larson of the Cochise County Superior Court also ordered.

Court records show Snyder-Stonebraker was arrested in March 2022 on suspicion of violating the Arizona statute that encompasses child pornography. He was later indicted by a grand jury on nine felony counts after nearly 500 illicit images of prepubescent girls were found in a “cloud” account Snyder-Stonebraker controlled.

Snyder-Stonebraker secured his pretrial release from jail by posting a $100,000 surety bond. He was looking at more than 90 years in prison if convicted at trial, but a change of plea hearing in February avoided the need for a trial.

His two guilty pleas were the result of an agreement negotiated by defense attorney Richard Lougee and prosecutor Lori Zucco. It gave the judge discretion on imposing a prison term between five and seven years.

The plea deal also included a provision that the other charges against Snyder-Stonebraker would be dismissed.

As part of Larson’s sentencing order, Snyder-Stonebraker must provide a DNA sample. Once released, he has 10 days to register as a sex offender with the sheriff of the county in which he will reside. State law also requires registered sex offenders to notify the local sheriff’s office within 72 hours of any change of residence.

In addition, Snyder-Stonebraker must obtain a special Arizona driver’s license or nonoperating ID license every year which is coded to show law enforcement personnel that he is a registered sex offender.
