Phoenix Police Investigating Suicide After Shooting Attack

Phoenix homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in west Phoenix where the suspect shot himself prior to police arriving on scene.    

Phoenix officers responded to a shooting call near 500 South 51st Avenue at about 12:26 p.m., on April 18, 2023. When officers got to the scene, they found an adult male victim suffering from minor injuries and an adult male suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The suspect was also taken to a hospital where he did not survive his injuries.  

Detectives responded to the scene and learned the victim was sitting in the cab of his work truck when the suspect approached and began to fire several rounds at him. The victim received minor injuries from glass and shrapnel striking him during this violent attack. In the course of this attack, it appears the suspect shot himself.  

This incident continues to be investigated in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
