Domestic Violence Suspect In Custody After Attack Puts Phoenix Police Officer In Hospital

A Phoenix police officer is in the hospital being treated for serious injuries sustained after he was assaulted by a domestic violence suspect.

On April 30, 2023 just after 9:35 p.m., a Phoenix police officer was flagged down in the area of Central Avenue and Thomas Road by a woman needing help. The woman indicated she had been assaulted by the father of her children, Rudy Gomez. As the officer was talking with the woman, Gomez approached the officer in a highly agitated manner. Gomez assaulted the officer, who ended up on the ground with Gomez punching him multiple times in the face and kicking him while he was down.

Gomez left the scene but was taken into custody by other officers responding to the scene.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
