Laurie Roberts’ Attempt At Irony In Attack On Republicans Fails

In her article “Legislator’s bizarre Bible caper raises questions” (April 29, 2023), Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts reprimands Republicans for being religious hypocrites. She focuses on their criticism of Democrat House Representative Stephanie Stahl Hamilton for removing Bibles from the House members-only lounge.

In an attempt at irony, Roberts accuses Republicans of not professing Christian values themselves. She bases this on their “demonization of immigrants in search of asylum” and their targeting of the LGBTQ community, “in particular, transgender children who already are at such high risk of suicide.”

Evidently, Roberts does not follow the news or she would realize that the immigration situation has become horrendous. No only has our Democrat-controlled federal government put people at risk by placing unvetted immigrants into their communities, but also this government is turning tens of thousands of asylum-seeking children travelling alone over to anyone willing to take them – in other words, to anyone who may want them for nefarious purposes.

Last week House and Human Services (HHS) whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas spoke to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration. She had thought she was going to be placing children in loving homes. She witnessed quite the opposite: young immigrant children being delivered into forced labor and other forms of slavery through a sophisticated network of criminals and traffickers. Other witnesses have come forth with similar stories.

Besides that bit of news, Roberts must have also missed recent reports on “transgenderism” among children. Sweden, one of the most progressive nations on transgender health care for decades, has halted the use of puberty blockers. Instead, the Swedish medical authorities have stated that the medical interventions “have a low certainty of benefits, while carrying a significant potential for medical harm.” They now encourage psychotherapy for minors who appear to be suffering from gender dysphoria. The United Kingdom, Finland, France, and other countries have taken similar steps.

One study on gender dysphoric children and its effect on children suggests that the teen suicide rate may have increased because of this therapy, rather than decrease it as Democrat activists like Laurie Roberts infer.

There was definitely merit to the Republicans’ concern about the disappearance of Bibles from their lounge. In fact, there is something in the Bible for everyone -including columnist Laurie Roberts:

Matthew 7:3 “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”
