Female Jaywalker Killed In Phoenix Collision

fatality

Phoenix police detectives are investigating an early morning collision that left a woman dead.

On Monday morning just after 5:00, officers responded to a call of a collision involving a pedestrian, Michelle Yazzie, near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives believe the 47-year-old Yazzie was attempting to cross 19th Avenue, not in a crosswalk, when she was struck by a vehicle going south on 19th Avenue. The speed of the vehicle may be a factor. There were no signs of impairment by the driver.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
