Former Arizona Lawmaker Alan Stephens Dies At 73

A former state Senate majority leader, Alan Stephens, passed away on August 16, at the age of 73.

Mr. Stephens died at his home in Phoenix of complications from multiple myeloma.

A Democrat, Mr. Stephens, served in the state Senate from 1985-93, including two years as majority leader.

In 2007, Mr. Stephens was forced out of his position as chief of staff for Governor Janet Napolitano and landed a job at Western Progress, a public policy group based in both Arizona and Colorado, according to the Capitol Times.
