Phoenix Police Department detectives are searching for a man who ran from the scene of a collision where a woman died.
According to the Department, on September 1, 2023, around 2:00 a.m. officers responded to the area of 67th Avenue and Indian School Road regarding a collision where a vehicle struck a nearby pole and rolled over. When officers arrived, both vehicles involved in the collision were at the intersection. They located two adult female occupants of the rolled over vehicle, both with injuries. The driver of this vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, identified as 36-year-old Akua Mashavu Safiya Miggins, suffered serious injuries. Life saving measures were attempted however Miggins did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The adult male driver of the other vehicle involved ran from the scene after the collision and before police arrival.
Detectives believe that the vehicle in which Miggins was a passenger was westbound on Indian School Road proceeding through 67th Avenue, when it was struck from behind by the other vehicle involved. Miggins’ vehicle traveled into a nearby power pole and subsequently rolled over. Additional details related to this incident, to include details about the man that ran, remain part of the ongoing investigation, according to the Department.
Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
