Phoenix police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Saturday evening near 63rd Avenue and Watkins Street that left one man dead and another injured.

Phoenix police responded to a shooting call in a neighborhood near 63rd Avenue and Watkins Street, just before 7:30 pm. When they arrived, they learned it was not a shooting and found a man with multiple stab wounds. The man was taken to the fire department who were waiting nearby. The victim was treated but later pronounced deceased on scene.

A second man was also found with stab wounds and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses told officers there was a fight between the victims and multiple people who were last seen running to a nearby home.

Officers located the home and called out the occupants. Multiple people came out, to include 18-year-old Nicolas Rios and 37-year-old Nicole Martinez. After speaking to witnesses, officers learned Rios was identified as the person who stabbed the victims. Another witness saw Martinez place a knife inside a vehicle parked nearby.

After completing interviews and reviewing evidence, homicide detectives believe that Rios and Martinez were with a group that became involved in a physical fight with another group of neighbors regarding a previous incident. During the fight, Rios stabbed both victims and ran back to his home. The knife believed to be used by Rios was found inside the vehicle which was placed there by Martinez.

Rios was booked on multiple felonies to include 2nd Degree Murder and Martinez was booked for Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
