Phoenix Collision Leaves Man Dead, Infant Hospitalized

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a west valley collision which left a man dead and an infant in the hospital.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on November 4, around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of 83rd Avenue and Palm Lane regarding a single vehicle collision into a tree. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle involved and the adult male driver, identified as 51-year-old Paul Lopez, with serious injuries. Lopez did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. An infant was also in the vehicle at the time of the collision and was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons only. The child was in a car seat at the time of the collision.

Detectives believe that Lopez was traveling southbound on 83rd Avenue when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered into the raised median and struck a tree.

The relationship between Lopez and the infant remains part of the ongoing investigation.
