Wanted Felon Dead After Shooting And Hospitalizing Phoenix Police Officer

A Phoenix police officer was shot in the lower leg and a wanted felon, Junior Reyes, was killed on Friday morning shooting in Peoria.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on January 5, 2024, around 10:00 a.m., detectives assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension and Investigations Detail (FAID) were in the area of 87th Avenue and Bell Road to conduct an apprehension of a known adult male, identified as the 30-year-old Reyes, who had an outstanding felony warrant and probable cause to be arrested for two counts of aggravated assault on two Phoenix Police officers from a previous incident.

Reyes was in the area just south of Bell Road when the apprehension was attempted.

During this apprehension, Reyes produced a handgun and gunfire was exchanged between multiple FAID detectives and Reyes. During the exchange of gunfire, one detective suffered a gunshot wound. This detective was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been treated and released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Reyes also suffered gunshots wounds. He was transported to a local hospital; however, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Peoria Police Department detectives responded to assume the investigation.
