Yuma Man Arrested After Threatening Driver And Passerby

On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at approximately 4:28 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a 2-vehicle collision on the overpass on Fortuna Road.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), when deputies arrived on the scene, a Dodge Challenger and Ford Taurus were seen blocking the roadway from a collision. As the deputy approached the collision scene, he was informed by drivers nearby that one of the subjects had a firearm. During the investigation, it was revealed the driver of the Ford Taurus had pointed a firearm at the driver of the Dodge Challenger while demanding money, and also at a passerby who asked him to move his vehicle from the roadway.

The suspect, identified as Jose Heredia, 30, of Yuma, was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for Robbery, two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon.

This case remains under investigation.
