This week’s reopening of the I-19 Checkpoint follows the resumption of activities at the Lukeville and Morley Port of Entries last Thursday.
Recent statistics from the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector reveal an alarming nearly 14,000 apprehensions of undocumented immigrants in the first week of January.
AZ: More than 40 migrants just crossed into the Lukeville area and are now going to be transported for processing.
This time of year is typically slower—We are certainly feeling that—but numbers are still higher than under previous administrations.

During this season, it’s typical for U.S. Border apprehensions to decrease, influenced by Mexico concluding a lengthier holiday period and the Biden administration urging the government to intensify efforts in curbing illegal crossings.
In ARRIAGA, Mexico, a group of approximately 2,000 migrants recommenced their travel through southern Mexico on Monday, facing challenges as they lacked the documentation that the Mexican government seemed to have assured them.
The reopening of interstate commerce remains uncertain as the persistent migrant and humanitarian crisis at the U.S. border shows no signs of resolution.
