Maricopa County Board Of Supervisors Accepting Applications For Sheriff As Penzone Exits

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is looking to appoint the next Maricopa County Sheriff. Board members officially accepted Sheriff Paul Penzone’s resignation on Wednesday.

Penzone’s last day is January 12th, 2024.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Russ Skinner will fill the role until the board makes an appointment, in accordance with ARS 11-443.

Per state law, Sheriff candidates must be a resident of Maricopa County and of the same party as the outgoing Sheriff which, in this case, is a Democrat.

Applicants should send their letters of interest along with a resume to the Office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 301 W. Jefferson St., 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003 or email it to ClerkBoard@maricopa.gov. All documents filed with the Clerk’s Office will become public records. Applicants are subject to a background check.

Applications will be accepted until January 19th, 2024 at 5 p.m.

The person chosen by the Board will fill the vacancy until the November election, when Maricopa County residents will elect a new Sheriff.
