High Rate Of Speed Led To Deadly Phoenix Collision

Phoenix police investigating a fatal collision that occurred Saturday morning that left a man dead at the hospital.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a serious vehicle collision in the intersection of 32nd Street and Behrend Drive. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles with extensive damage on the roadway. Officers found two people inside a black 4-door vehicle and a man, later identified as 87-year-old Ivan Teklic, inside a teal 4-door vehicle.

The fire department responded and provided medical aid to Teklic and transported him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Teklic later died from his injuries at the hospital. The driver and passenger of the black vehicle did not suffer any serious injuries.

Detectives learned the black vehicle was heading northbound on 32nd Street at a high rate of speed when it collided with Teklic’s vehicle as he was heading westbound on Behrend Drive to go southbound on 32nd Street. The driver of the black vehicle was evaluated and showed no signs of impairment.

The investigation remains active as investigators continue to process the evidence. A charging decision will be made once the investigation is complete.
