Three Servings of Nonsense

President Donald Trump | President Joe Biden

Each day, Americans are fed three servings of nonsense, although a word stronger than “nonsense” could be used, perhaps President Eisenhower’s favorite word, “tommyrot”. What is really troubling is when this nonsense is brought forth during an interview, the journalist never seems to challenge what is being served.

The first bit of nonsense says that Republicans must vote against the bipartisan Senate bill on the border to prevent Biden from getting credit. This is beyond nonsense; it is sheer stupidity. The Biden administration denied that there was a crisis at the southern border when there was indeed a crisis, then failed to take needed actions to stem the crisis. It was Republicans in Congress who said that if Democrats wanted funding for Ukraine, Israel, etc., it would be necessary to have a bill that would realistically deal with the border. Republican Senator James Lankford led the effort to write the needed bill, and working with Democrats, a bill was crafted which many say is the best border bill in decades, and it contained none of the items the progressives with the Democrats would want.

Instead of Biden getting credit for this effort, it was Republicans who demanded the bill and it was Lankford who saw to its creation. Now, instead, we will have Democrats blaming Republicans for stymying the effort to deal with the border.

The second serving of nonsense involves those who complain about the innocent citizens of Gaza who are being killed and injured by Israeli attacks. This is nonsensical since the Gazans could easily move across the border to camps which could be established in the Egyptian Sinai Desert. Israel would not attack Egyptian territory, and innocent Gazans would be safer.

The third serving of nonsense occurs every time a supporter of Trump states that we have war under Biden yet had peace during the Trump administration. What nonsense this is! One of the great accomplishments of the Trump presidency was the defeat of ISIS and an end to their caliphate. Yes, the fighting and dying was done by Kurds yet the U.S. provided air power, artillery and intelligence. This was war.

Supporters of Trump speak of how he dealt with Iran by using a drone to kill an Iranian general who was responsible for attacks on Americans in Iraq and Syria – was this not war? How about what was happening in Afghanistan during the Trump years. It was mostly Afghans who were dying but his was not peace.

Will somebody please stop the nonsense?
