Man Killed After His Vehicle Crosses Into Incoming Traffic Striking Three Other Vehicles

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a west valley collision involving several vehicles that resulted in one death and another hospitalization.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on April 5, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of 52nd Avenue and Van Buren Street regarding a collision that involved four vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries. When officers arrived, they located two adult male drivers of two of the vehicles involved, both with serious injuries. One man, identified as 27-year-old Daniel Barcelo, was transported to a nearby hospital however he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The other adult male driver was also transported to a nearby hospital and remains there in critical condition with serious injuries. In total, four vehicles were involved in the collision. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved did not suffer any injuries.

Detectives believe that the vehicle driven by Barcelo was westbound on Van Buren Street in the area of 52nd Avenue, when for unknown reasons it crossed into oncoming traffic striking the other three vehicles involved. All three of those other vehicles were eastbound on Van Buren Street at the time of the collision.
