Phoenix Police Identify Man Accused Of Stabbing Officer

On April 8, 2024, Phoenix Police Department detectives booked 33-year-old John Liddell Jr. into Maricopa County Jail for the stabbing of an officer.

John Liddell Jr., 33, is facing various felony charges stemming from an incident that took place at a gas station near 17th Avenue and Bell Road on Sunday.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on Sunday just after 1:00 a.m., an officer responded to a trespassing call at a gas station near 17th Avenue and Bell Road. The officer was directed to a man inside the business and was told by an employee they wanted him trespassed off the property. The officer spoke to the man, identified as Liddell, and informed him he was no longer allowed to be on the property. The officer escorted Liddell towards the exit when Liddell pulled a knife and violently attacked the officer.

During the assault, employees inside the store rushed to the officer’s aide and fought with Liddell. They were able to subdue Liddell until other officers arrived and took him into custody. The officer was rushed to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The employees who assisted the officer were treated on scene for minor injuries. Liddell was also taken to the hospital where he was admitted for medical issues unrelated to the incident.
