
Phoenix police officers arrested a man, Bobby Freeman, after he punched one of them in the face and punched and bit a second officer. A third officer sustained minor injuries while attempting to apprehend Freeman.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 18, 2024, around 10:00 a.m., officers who were in the area of 1st Street and Fillmore Street saw the 20-year-old Freeman and a second subject in a physical fight. As officers attempted to intervene, Freeman ran away. Officers were alerted through police radio broadcast that Freeman may be armed with a knife and had attempted to stab someone prior to fleeing. A Phoenix police commander and two lieutenants located Freeman running from the area. Freeman was given commands to stop and surrender, but did not. During the apprehension Freeman punched the police commander in the face and bit him in the forearm, Freeman also punched the police lieutenant in the face. A police lieutenant suffered some minor abrasions during the incident.
Freeman was taken into custody and handcuffed with the assistance of responding officers.
Freeman was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on numerous charges to include aggravated assault on officers.
