Phoenix Police Issue DUI In Death Of Pedestrian

Phoenix Police detectives processed a 64-year-old man for DUI after his vehicle hit a pedestrian in south Phoenix.

The adult male pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, just after 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 21, 2024, officers were called to a pedestrian
involved collision near 16th Street and Elwood Street. Officers and fire personnel responded to the area and found an adult male suffering from critical injuries. Emergency medical treatment was provided; however, the man did not survive his injuries and died on scene.

Detectives learned that the victim was walking in the roadway when a truck driving south on 16th Street hit him. The driver of the truck, Steven Muniz, stayed on scene and was processed for driving under the influence and issued a criminal citation.
