Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting near 24th Avenue and Buckeye Road.
On August 10, 2024, at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers responded to the area of 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street regarding a shots fired call. As officers arrived, they learned that an adult male suspect confronted several people nearby firing multiple gunshots in their vicinity and threatening several of these victims with a handgun. The suspect took off in a vehicle. A description of the suspect and vehicle was given to other officers over the police radio.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a vehicle stop in the area of 25th Avenue and Buckeye Road. The adult male driver failed to comply with commands as he got out of the vehicle and ran from officers eastbound on Buckeye Road. Officers chased the man as saw him reaching towards his waistband. An officer involved shooting then occurred. The man suffered at least one gunshot wound. He was detained and life saving measures were attempted. The man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced on scene. A firearm was located on scene.
