
A man is in custody after he allegedly beat a 70-year-old female employee of Sprouts with a club inside the store in Sahuarita.
According to the Sahuarita Police Department, on May 21, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Sprouts located at 18755 S Nogales Hwy, for a report of a man assaulting a woman inside the store with a club.
Upon arrival, officers were able to take 42-year-old Green Valley resident Daniel Kovarik Jr. into custody without incident. Santa Rita Fire also responded and transported the victim to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
There is no indication that the suspect and victim knew one another.
Kovarik was booked into the Pima County Jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Dangerous Instrument, Aggravated Assault Serious Physical Injury, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault, two counts of Disorderly Conduct, two counts of Threatening and Intimidating, Criminal Damage and an unrelated felony arrest warrant.
Kovarik is currently being held in the Pima County Jail on a $45,000 bond.
