Phoenix Officers Act Swiftly To Rescue Infant After Mother Found Dead

Phoenix Police officer moved quickly to save an infant from a an apartment on May 14 several days after its mother died.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the infant child survived several days alone after the mother passed away in a south Phoenix apartment. Responding officers forced entry through the front door to reach the emaciated infant and walked them out to responding fire personal for emergency medical care.

At about 10:30 a.m. on May 14, 2025, an observant neighbor called officers to an apartment complex near Central Avenue and Illini Street to check on their neighbor. When officers got to the scene, they learned the women in the apartment, had recently given birth to a baby, and had not been seen or heard from for several days. Officers looked through the windows of the apartment and located one unlocked. Upon opening the window, officers saw the woman motionless on the floor and a small infant laying on the bed visibly emaciated. Officers rushed to the front door and forced it open. Officers swiftly rescued the infant and met with Phoenix Fire personal who took the child to the hospital in serious condition.

The child’s heath improved as hospital staff provided lifesaving care. The child is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives responded to take over the investigation.

The Office of the Medical Examiner responded and began their investigation into the cause and manner of death of the baby’s mother.

Department of Child Safety was made aware of this investigation and are working with investigators and family.
