You’ve heard it a thousand times in church:
“We have to support Israel! God said it—‘I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.’”
It’s become almost a Christian mantra. A sacred cow. And if you even dare to question it, someone’s quick to slap that “anti-Semitic” label on you faster than you can say “Zionist lobby.”
But let’s stop for a minute. Let’s go to the text—not the talking points.
First, let’s clear something up that some Christian misunderstand: Abraham was not Jewish. Let me say that again for the folks in the back—Abraham. Was. Not. Jewish. Neither were Adam, Noah, Job and Enoch.
There was no Israel yet. No Jews. No Torah. No Zionism. Abraham didn’t keep kosher—none of them kept kosher they just obeyed the voice of Yahweh and believed in Him for Life. God’s grace made Abrham the father of many nations—not some ethnic or political identity.
In Genesis 12:3. God is speaking to Abraham, not to the United States, not to evangelicals. He says: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse. And all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Now in Hebrew, the word for “bless” is barak. It means to invoke divine favor—to ask God to show kindness and grace. It is not a call to blindly support the modern secular state of Israel.
Here’s the problem: There are Christians who confuse a spiritual agreement with a political alliance. The promises of God to Abrham have been reduced down to foreign policy bullet points. But God’s agreement with Abrahm was not about military support or iron domes. It was about the spiritual expediency of the Hebrew people and their assembled nation to carry out God’s eternal kingdom plans. This includes providing Biblical Truth and eternal life through the Messiah, to the entire world.
The agreement with Abraham was not meant to be misused by a geopolitical state. It was meant to be fulfilled in Jesus and extended to all nations through the gospel.
Modern Israel is a secular nation-state that that is comfortable in promoting atheism as well as the LGPTQ agenda. Ancient Israel was a theocracy. Both consisted of faithful Jews, sure… but it also facilitated pagan practices – the worship of Baal, The worship of Molech, the golden calf, the persecution of the prophets, under leaders such as Ahab, Jezebel and Hared. How is one to bless a nation with this type of spiritual track record?
We need to stop treating Israel and the Jewish people on par with idols —Something that is supported at the expense of Biblical truth
Perhaps the Biblical way of blessing Israel is this:
By praying and asking God that they would engage in His plan for them in a biblically consistent manner. That they would become a spiritually expedient nation in fulfilling the Great Commission.
That they would come to understand and appreciate the Jewish carpenter in the context of the Hebrew Scriptures as found in Proverbs 30:4 (2 powers of heaven), Isa 53 (the suffering Messiah), Psalm 110:1 (the Son of God and King of Zion) and Job 14:14 and 19:23-27 (the giver of eternal life).
The political viability of the Jewish nation is a reality, but their eternal destination in a right relationship with the Creator should be the priority.
How can this happen? NOT through MOAB but through Messiah. Faith alone in Christ alone for eternal life (John 6:47). This may be why Jesus said to “the Jews” 2000 years ago that their father Abraham “rejoiced to see His day, and he saw it and was glad.” (Jn 8:56)
Pray that God blesses Israel as an elect nation and the chosen Hebrew people to engage life in a manner consistent with the Hebrew text and New Testament.
James T. Harris cracks the whip and keep the clowns in their place as the ringmaster of the Conservative Circus, heard during AM drive time on 550 KFYI, and across the country on the iHeart Radio App.
James T. has worked for and earned the loyalty of many grassroots activists in the Republican Party from populists to conservatives. James T. believes that conversation is the spice of life and his listeners are treated to a daily dose of spicy conversation. Fearless and faithful, James T. is not afraid to tackle the tough issues and speak truth to power. James T. can tackle topics and issues that others can’t – so he does.
I love the Ring Master! He is fearless.
Some valid points. However, I believe the Bible teaches that nations will be judged and one key feature is how they treated Israel.
and the point of this is? The parable of the Fig was fulfilled when Israel became a nation again in 1947 ; Prophecy – that after 2000 years of ‘not existing’ as Israel from which they were dispersed around the world – they came back at the end of WWII. Literally the substrate of that war.. against JEWS? with millions of them slaughtered – ‘they came home’ to Israel, that became a nation again. Immediately they were attacked by 5 surrounding nations who had no interest in ‘sharing Israel’ with the Jews – which Israel offered and they call declined. ISRAEL WON. And has won every attack / war since then. PENDING Ham on-gog means “the multitude of Gog”(Russian and company) and refers to a valley mentioned in the Bible where the bodies of Gog’s army will be buried after a significant battle, as described in Ezekiel 39:11. This valley is also known as the place where Israel will cleanse the land by burying the fallen soldiers. THIS IS JUST OVER THE HORIZON.. in our time in which we live. Believe or not.. your choice ; so far 100% accurate – including the Abraham accord – a false peace? Real in time till the Abomination of desolation. Praise GOD! AMEN! It is the time in which we live – as it was in the time of Noah
Solid points made here which I won’t dispute.
But, the main thing many Israel supporters, including millions of evangelicals, need to realize is, today’s Israel is *not* Biblical Israel!
Things get much clearer when that’s understood. Then blindly following those who want to support todays’ very ungodly Israel, can no longer do so.
