Phoenix Homeowner Kills Burglary Suspect

A burglary suspect was shot and killed in the backyard of a Phoenix home by the homeowner Sunday morning.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, at about 7:43 a.m. on July 13, 2025, a homeowner called into 9-1-1 saying a man was in his backyard trying to force his way into his occupied home. While on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator, the homeowner shot the man while he was in the backyard. Officers arrived at the scene and had the homeowner and his family, including small children, exit the house. Phoenix Fire responded and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

After detectives reviewed of the evidence and all statements made to investigators, the homeowner was released from police custody.
