
Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a fatal collision that happened in west Phoenix involving two vehicles, leaving two dead.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, at round 5:56 am, officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles in the area of 57th Avenue and Indian School Road. As officers began to arrive on the scene, they loacated an adult female, identified as Phyliss Wauneka, who was unresponsive and in critical condition. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and pronounced Phyliss deceased. A passenger was identified as Antonio Wauneka from the same vehicle he was transported to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition, where he later died. The driver of the additional vehicle involved was transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary reasons.
Detectives responded to assume the investigation and process the scene. Preliminary information suggests Phyliss was attempting to cross Indian School Road northbound on 57th Avenue from a stop sign when they were struck by the vehicle. Speed is suspected to be a factor in this collision.
The driver of the other vehicle stayed on scene, and detectives evaluated the man and did not identify signs of impairment. Charging decisions will not be determined until the conclusion of the investigation. Additional information remains a part of the ongoing investigation.
