A Phoenix woman, 20-year-old Keonna Honanie, is dead after she was allegedly shot in the head by a Phoenix man, 22-year-old Donald Nash, in Payson on Saturday.

According to the Payson Police Department, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, just before 10:00 a.m., the Department received calls of a female subject who had been shot in a vehicle, which had pulled into a parking lot near the Payson Denny’s restaurant.

Officers arrived very quickly, detained Nash, and began to render medical aid to Honanie.

Very shortly thereafter, Payson Fire Department and AMR Ambulance arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. Honanie was transported to Banner Payson Medical Center, where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.

The subsequent investigation showed that Nash and Honanie had been in the rear seat of a white Honda Pilot SUV that was traveling through Payson. Nash and Honanie had been involved in an ongoing argument, and as the vehicle traveled through the 400 block of South Beeline Highway in Payson, Nash produced a firearm and shot Honanie in the head.

There were three other occupants of the vehicle, including a one-year-old child seated next to Honanie.

Nash was booked into the Gila County Jail on one count of Second Degree Murder, three counts of felony Endangerment, and one count of Resisting Arrest.

If any of the vehicles that may have been traveling alongside the Honda Pilot at approximately the same time have any additional information, they are encouraged to contact the Payson Police Department at (928)474-5177. Detectives also viewed surveillance footage that may show pedestrians along the highway at the time this occurred. If you or someone you know has any additional information, please contact the Police Department.

  1. Maybe it’s time we conduct a decade-long experiment with a public corporal punishment and compulsory military service. People in general, but young men in particular seem to have lost all common sense and moral code. Let’s see the results after 10 years and decide then which works better – ‘gentle parenting’ and participation trophies or enforcing cause-and-effect, aka FAFO.
