A grand jury in Maricopa County has indicted Freddie Avila for another man’s overdose death nearly six months ago.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, in March, employees at a car wash in Tempe found the victim, Chris Joseph, dead in his car in the parking lot. More than 500 fentanyl pills were in the cupholder next to him. The medical examiner determined he died from fentanyl poisoning.
Avila is charged with the following:
Avila is being held on a $250,000 secured appearance bond.
Avila is the second person to be charged in Maricopa County under the state’s “Sale of Lethal Fentanyl” law, which makes it a Class Two Felony to knowingly sell fentanyl that causes another person’s death.
