The youngest son of the late U.S. Senator John McCain, James “Jimmy” McCain, was selected to become the newest member of the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR).
Governor Katie Hobbs appointed the youngest McCain on Monday. If confirmed, he will represent northern Arizona.

“His long track record of public service and knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities of northern Arizona make him well positioned to advocate for the students of the region,” said Hobbs. “With his deep Arizona roots and passion for serving the people of our state, I know he will be a tireless advocate for northern Arizona.”

Prior to McCain, Hobbs had another individual picked to serve in that ABOR seat, Liz Archuleta, who was unable to stay on since the Arizona Senate neglected to give her a hearing.

McCain said he would especially focus his ABOR work on benefitting tribal and rural communities. McCain’s doctorate in education concerns Native American veterans within the Indian Health Services System. He received a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Arizona State University (ASU).

Of note, Hobbs’ announcement identified McCain as living in Cornville; back in May, McCain told multiple outlets that he was selling his $2.2 million home and moving out of Cornville. Online listings reflect the property was removed from the market at some point between May and the present.

ABOR Chair Doug Goodyear commended McCain as a strong reflection of Arizona values.

“Mr. McCain brings a deep understanding of Arizona’s values and a strong record of public service to our nation,” said Goodyear.

Like his father, McCain served in the military and is a wartime veteran (Afghanistan and Iraq). Unlike his father, McCain is a Democrat.

Both McCains, however, opposed President Donald Trump. In last year’s presidential election ahead of the first presidential debate, McCain endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris.

“She’ll bring that moderation, that bipartisanship that we’ve been missing for so long,” said McCain.

McCain criticized Trump for making a campaign visit to Arlington National Cemetery. McCain’s father also visited Arlington and filmed a political ad there without permission.

“These men and women that are laying in the ground there have no choice” of whether to be a backdrop for a political campaign,” said McCain.

Trump attended in response to an invitation from families of service members killed during the botched U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 under former President Joe Biden.

McCain left the Republican Party in 2016 following Trump’s first election to the office.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) contribution records show McCain wasn’t active in donating to candidates until this year, all Democratic candidates and causes:

$5,000 to Juntos PAC, Senator Ruben Gallego’s political action committee for electing Democratic candidates; $3,600 to former congressional candidate Daniel Hernandez; $3,600 to 2026 congressional candidate Marlene Galán-Woods; $2,500 to the Equality Project PAC, the Congressional Equality Caucus’ pro-LGBTQ political action committee; and $2,000 to Congressman Greg Stanton.

McCain is an intelligence officer with the Arizona National Guard and government affairs director for the Hensley Beverage Company.

McCain also sits on boards for the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations and the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association.

McCain is heavily involved with the pro-globalism, D.C.-based McCain Institute established with ASU. Every year, leaders from around the state, nation, and world across the political spectrum descend on the area near where McCain resides to attend the Sedona Forum.

  1. What’s going to happen between now and 2030: AI will erode and finally destroy all universities’ operating models that refuse radical change to accomodate AI. Arizona’s legislature (the taxmoney $$$) will be kept in the dark and gaslighted by ABOR & the Left to protect these gigantic govt-jobs schemes. But at some point, as enrollments drop (UA’s -20% this Fall), and there’s less and less payback (tech spinoffs, Corp relo’s, R&D grants, etc.) it will become painfully obvious. But AZ taxpays will have wasted Billions & Billions. It’s a LEAD-PIPE CERTAINTY.

  2. Trump should pull all federal dollars from anything mentioning traitor John McCain, especially at ASU.

WHO IN AZ IS WATCHING THIS SHIT FOR MAGA?? BIGGS better get to work

  3. John McCain was a traitor who passed around the phony Steele dossier pushing the traitorous Russia Hoax and saved Obamacare with a cowardly midnight thumbs-down vote. His Kamala endorsing traitor son is par for the course.

  4. The picture tells you all you need to know about little Johnnie and his politics which were RINO all the way. And now his son is on the ABOR? Guess indoctrination of students into the democrat swamp is more important than their education. What a joke AZ has turned into thanks to the McCain wing. You really know what they are and stand for now. Thanks little Johnnie, you son outed you didn’t he. They say never speak ill of the dead and you are lucky you are gone.

  5. His was a RINO and he’s a Democrat.
No surprise. Their only mindset is sucking up tax dollars and telling people how they should live.
Such a far cry from what John McCain was 55 years ago.
